Hey You Wanna Carry My CD?? Or Eat My Record!

Ok so the internet is supposed to be a big boon for indie artists and break free from the
bondage of the way the music business normally works. Yeah, well some day that may be
true, and no matter what you do, you need to have your music, your website so that
”somebody” can hear your music, download it and maybe even buy it!!!

But, you still need to “Hit The Streets”!

So I’m doing just that. Going and trying to get my CD into local record stores in
the NYC/NJ area.So you have a phone you call them, or you walk over there with a
bag of the best music you’ve ever heard and you just can’t believe it when someone says,
”We don’t do consignment!”. Huh??

Cast in point...

I call a local shop hear in NYC that sells used CDS. Tons of them!!

I buy Cds there. So I call and ask for the Manager and the Johnny-On-The-Spot guy who picks up the phone says maybe he can help me. And I think, well maybe he can. So I ask him what their consignment policy is. Thinking he won’t know what that means or then go and say, “Yeah, I better get the manager to help you with this!” No, he doesn’t do that, he says “We don’t do consignment!
I’m in a band too and they won’t even carry my CD!” (Very hard not to scream the F word at the top of my lungs along 5th ave. at this point! Cool )

What in the name of heaven can a poor boy do! Now, there are two of us!! So we commiserate and he tells me about a place in Brooklyn called “Eat Records” that does consignment. So we talk some more, commiserate even more and we say good luck to each other.

The world is sometimes a very dark and ugly place. I mean come on, I’ll give you 1 copy for free to play and see if you like it, and 2 copies to keep on your smelly dusting shelves.
In the retail biz that is called, 1 for show 2 to go!!

This is going to be tough. Thank goodness someone eats records, I mean has a store called Eat Records and then I suppose will what, sell them after they eat them??
Cool And he can kiss my grits too!! Cool

PS I will be going to the store in the flesh to speak to this
Manager flunky dude and try to convice him. 1 for show 2 to go. It’s easy!!
And it costs him nothing! SHEESH! Cool

Maybe I should print this review of my CD out and take it with me:

”Radio Song”
May 4, 2005

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: an unsigned singer/songwriter releases an album
that should be on commercial radio across the nation. That is the story of Guy Michetti,
an award-winning pop rocker whose latest record is about as FM-friendly as music gets.
We live in a lazy, shallow music world, one that champions violence and negative emotions
over optimism and a gentle pat on the back. Michetti’s songs are tuneful and thoughtful
at the same time, refreshingly viewing love without a jaded eye (Shes My Only One} and
unafraid of paying an old-school homage to his hometown (the post-9/11 A New York City Life).
This is not rock & roll that’ll cause scandals or pioneer new sounds.
It’s just rock & roll and its rock solid.

Podcasts are everywhere!

Podcasts are everywhere!

You can listen to some great independent music with your Ipod.
With Radio being such a wastland of endless talk and mediore music these days it's great to have an alternative.
You'll need some software to sync up the podcast with your Ipod and I suggest using "Ipodder".
Here's the link to download the software: http://ipodder.sourceforge.net/index.php

C.C. Chapman's podcast a few weeks ago was one of the best I've heard. And it isn't only because
he podcasted my song "She Can Cry". C.C. really plays some great independent music and
he's got a great personality. You should check out. C.C. and his podcasts yourself. Here's the link:
